Season Overview
FLL UNEARTHED 2025 missions challenge teams to imagine a future where we better understand and interact with underground environments. Whether it’s improving tunneling systems, monitoring pipes and cables, or exploring ancient ruins, students will use the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime or MINDSTORMS EV3 robot kits to complete themed missions that simulate real-world challenges.
Let’s break down some of the expected missions and their details (based on past FLL formats and visuals released so far):

FLL UNEARTHED Missions
Mission 01: Surface Brushing
Goal:Â Remove the soil deposits from the dig site and ensure the archaeologist's brush does not come into contact with them.
Points:

Innovation Project
As always, teams will complete an Innovation Project alongside the Robot Game. This year, students will identify a real-world problem related to underground systems or exploration and come up with a creative solution. That could include ideas for improving mining safety, enhancing sewer inspection systems, or designing new underground transportation networks.
For Teams: How to Prepare
Brainstorm multiple mission strategies—especially for object lifts, tilts, and lever pushes.
Practice fine motor control routines and consistent travel paths.
Design attachments to grip looped pieces or artifacts securely.
Be ready for a final coopertition task with a shared game element.
Simple, High-Scoring Strategy for FLL UNEARTHED 2025
If your team is looking to maximize points with minimal complexity, focus on the missions that are both easy to complete and high-value. Together, these can earn over 200 points with basic attachments and reliable movement.
Top Missions to Prioritize:
Heavy Lifting (30 pts)
Who Lived Here? (30 pts)
Statue Rebuild (30 pts)
Careful Recovery (30 + 10 pts)
Mineshaft Explorer (30 + 10 pts)
Smart Add-Ons:
Forge and Tip the Scales (10–30 pts)
Surface Brushing (10–40 pts)
Precision Tokens (+50 pts)
With a few well-planned runs and a strong focus on consistency over complexity, even new teams can achieve high scores this season.
Final Thoughts
The UNEARTHED season has the potential to be one of the most engaging and technically challenging FLL themes in recent years. With a strong focus on infrastructure, geology, and environmental science, it encourages teams to think deeply about systems that most people never see—but rely on every day.
As we gear up for kickoff and model building, one thing is clear: this season will take teams beneath the surface, in more ways than one.
Stay tuned for the official missions and scoring rules once they’re fully released by FIRST LEGO League.
